ศาลสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช ตั้งอยู่ บนถนนท่าหลวง บริเวณหน้าค่ายตากสิน เป็นอาคารรูปทรงเก้าเหลี่ยม หลังคาเป็นรูปพระมาลาหรือหมวกยอดแหลม ภายในประดิษฐานพระบรมรูปของสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราช ศาลนี้สร้างจากความศรัทธาเพื่อให้ชาวจันท์และคนในจังหวัดใกล้เคียงมาสักการะ เพื่อความเป็นสิริมงคล เดิมเป็นเพียงศาลไม้อยู่ด้านข้างศาลหลักเมือง ครั้นในสมัย ม.จ.สฤษดิเดช ชยางกูร สมุหเทศาภิบาลมณฑลจันทบุรีได้สร้างศาลใหม่ขึ้น เมือปี พ.ศ. 2463 บริเวณด้านหน้าค่ายทหารกองพันนาวิกโยธิน คนละฝั่งกับศาลหลักเมืองเป็นศาลคอนกรีตสี่เหลี่ยมจตุรมุข มีบันไดด้านหน้าและด้านข้างสามทางกรมศิลปากรเป็นผู้ออกแบบ ภายในเป็นที่ประดิษฐานเทวรูปซึ่งเป็นเทพเจ้าประจำพระองค์ของพระเจ้าตากและไม่มีพระบรมรูปของพระเจ้าตากสินเช่นปัจจุบัน ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2534 ข้าราชการ พ่อค้า ประชาชนชาวจันทบุรีได้ร่วมกันบริจาคเงินสร้างศาลสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชขึ้นใหม่ เคียงคู่กับศาลเดิม ศาลใหม่นี้ เป็นรูปทรงเก้าเหลี่ยมสร้างด้วยหินอ่อน หลังคาเป็นรูปพระมาลายอดแหลม สูงจากพื้นถึงยอด 16.9 เมตร ประดับลวดลายทอง ยอดบนเป็นฉัตรทองคำเก้าชั้น ภายในมีพระบรมรูปของสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชหล่อด้วยทองเหลืองรมดำ ประทับนั่งทรงเมือง ผนังภายในเขียนลายไทยพุ่มข้าวบิณฑ์ไว้อย่างสวยงาม

      ทุกวันที่ 28 ธันวาคม ของทุกปี ซึ่งเป็นวันคล้ายวันเสด็จขึ้นครองราชย์ของพระองค์ จะจัดให้มีการทำบุญตักบาตรและถวายเครื่องราชสักการะเพื่อเป็นการน้อมรำลึกถึงพระมหากรุณาธิคุณที่พระองค์ทรงกอบกู้เอกราชให้ แผ่นดินไทยศาลหลักเมืองจันทบุรี ตั้งอยู่ถนนท่าหลวง ตรงข้ามกับศาลสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินมหาราชไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นเมื่อใด เป็นเพียงการสันนิษฐานว่าสมเด็จพระเจ้าตากสินทรงสร้างขึ้นเมื่อครั้งเสด็จเข้าเมืองจันทบุรีเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2310 เพื่อใช้เมืองจันทบุรีเป็นที่รวบรวมไพร่พล และเสบียงอาหารเพื่อไปกอบกู้กรุงศรีอยุธยา ตัวศาลเดิมน่าจะสร้างด้วยศิลาแลงซึ่งยังปรากฏร่องรอยให้เห็นอยู่แต่ก็ชำรุดโทรมไปมากจนไม่อาจทราบว่ามีรูปทรงอย่างไร ส่วนหลักเมืองและตัวศาลนั้นสร้างขึ้นเมื่อพ.ศ. 2524 และได้มีการบูรณะซ่อมแซมตัวอาคาร และปรับภูมิทัศน์โดยรอบ
